Personal Credentials

What makes me think that I should start a blog where I basically Input anything and everything I know of find about Anime? It really is not a sense of empowerment or a proverbial stroking of my intellectual ego that makes me think I can do this. My motive is much more simple than that: I just need to talk to people. Plain and simple.

I’m not one of those people who thinks their opinion is the correct one. Actually, I’m the opposite. I’m one of those people who thrives in the gray and the unknown. I’d rather hear everyone’s opinion because seeing things as black and white doesn’t thrill me in the least. This probably comes from a background in Literature. I have my B.A. in Literature and English Education, so I’ve spent a lot of my time investigating words of nonfiction, poetry, and fiction.

“So, what does that have to do about Anime and Manga?” you might ask. Everything. Manga is a written medium and therefore can be analyzed using Literary Theory. Likewise, Anime is a video medium and can be analyzed using Film Theory. Film Theory takes it’s essence from Literary Theory, adding the analysis of sound, shading, lighting, movement, etc.

Obviously this means nothing more than that my posts will most likely be well thought out and will contain multiple references, quotes, and examples.

Another answer to why I think my entrance into the blogosphere is legitimate is the fact that I am an English teacher-to-be. I am still working on my credential and will be student teaching come January. I hope to teach High School. As a future teacher, I enjoy to teach—bet you didn’t see that one coming. I like to share information and guide discussion.

This brings me back to the idea of a community. I’d like to make this a communal atmosphere. Yay, collaboration! I want you to respond to me, dialogue with me, argue with me, correct me if necessary, and ask me questions. Think of this as a forum with me as simply an medium.
